What I do
An integrative approach
I’m a counselling psychologist who works with individuals and couples to provide weekly, bi-weekly and monthly psychological interventions and support.
I use an integrative approach, which starts with me taking a client-focused, person-centred stance. I then draw on aspects psychodynamic theory and practice, and combine this with my expertise in cognitive-behavioural therapies (CBT) and trauma-focused interventions. The models I use include compassion-focused therapy, schema-focused therapy, trauma-focused CBT and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).
My practice is evidence-based and informed, but is also led by the client’s needs, goals, and preferences. Above all, my approach is collaborative - a joint venture between you, the client, and me, your therapist.
Working in the NHS
When working in the NHS, I work in specialist traumatic stress services as a Highly Specialist Psychologist. I work with individuals who have experienced traumatic events in their lives, and who have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD.
Trauma and PTSD are my clinical specialisms. I am trained in and am highly experienced in using trauma-focused CBT and EMDR for traumatic stress disorders.
Working in Private Practice
In private practice, I provide therapy for a wide range of psychological problems and emotional difficulties. In addition to trauma-related work, this includes working with clients who have depression, anxiety, have suffered a loss or bereavement, or are going through difficult and challenging relationship problems or divorce.
Working with women
Underpinning my practice is a passion for working with women.
So often told not to take up space, or that a space is not theirs. So often made to feel that they are asking for too much, or should not ask in the first place. Usually feeling that they are making a bigger deal out of something than is warranted.
Providing a therapeutic safe-haven for women to think, explore, feel, work-through and untangle what they wish to and need to is a great privilege.
