Who I Am

Who I Am

Your therapy is about you. It is about where you are in life, in your relationships, in your career or with your family.

At the same time, it can feel disconcerting not to have a clue who your therapist is.

Values matter

  • I am of  (British-Ugandan) mixed heritage, and often feel the pull and complexities of this, as well as the joy of being who I am.

  • I am a mother, and becoming one was wild and disorienting. I was often at sea, or lost entirely, wondering whether I would ever find the pieces of myself and be able to re-assemble myself into any kind of permanent form.

  • I am a cis-woman and hold many privileges as such, access to spaces without question, and peace that my trans sisters are not privy to. As a brown woman, I encounter bias and microaggressions frequently. But to be a woman to me is winning. It is to be a part of a community of strength, companionship, encouragement, resilience and power.

  • I am queer, usually using the term bisexual, but pansexual also applies. I connected to my queerness well into my adult life, and I share this here as I know this is the case for many who are fearful to admit, explore, or believe in this part of themselves.

It’s impossible for any therapist to have lived experience of all of the things you have been through - and sometimes unhelpful! You are unique, and you are the expert in your own experience.

However, I believe that we often choose any of our relationships based on shared understanding and values. With that in mind, here are a few things about me that are integral parts of my identity and inform who I am as a human being as much as a psychologist.
